Laura Cavender

Laura Cavender is a seasoned communications strategist and trusted advisor with more than 25 years of experience helping organizations navigate complex challenges, shape public perception, and amplify their leadership voice.
She was a journalist in Washington, D.C., before becoming a speechwriter at the American Red Cross, where she worked on 9.11.01. She spent a decade at Georgetown University leading media relations and communications before joining the Office of the President at the University of Pennsylvania, where she advised on high-stakes communications, built national and international media engagement, and launched the president’s social media presence.
Since 2019, Laura has served as an independent consultant, partnering with executives and organizations across higher education, healthcare, nonprofits, and the private sector. She specializes in strategic communication planning, executive visibility, messaging, and crisis and issues management. Drawing on her deep experience with large institutions and public campaigns, she helps clients anticipate challenges, seize opportunities, and communicate with clarity and impact.
Laura’s approach is grounded in strategic thinking, adaptability, and a deep understanding of diverse audiences. She works closely with leadership teams to provide thoughtful, pragmatic counsel that aligns with their goals and strengthens their voice in a crowded landscape.
In addition, she is an engaged community leader and has been elected twice to Haverford Township’s Board of Commissioners, where she represents neighborhoods in Ardmore, Haverford, and Bryn Mawr, PA.
